There was a common theme that permeated the bouts which took place this past weekend. If you couldn’t tell from the title, that theme was knockouts. Fighters taking the outcome into their own hands leaving no room for the Adelaide Byrds of this world to fuck things up. Everyone loves to see knockouts, so I’ve compiled the best finishes of the weekend for your viewing pleasure. Sit back, grab your popcorn, and throw on that classic LL as you enjoy some spectacular finishes.
CHRIS EUBANK JR. vs. AVNI YILDIRIM
The World Boxing Super Series continues to deliver certified bangers week in and week out. Formerly undefeated Avni Yildirim (16-1-0) faced off against Chris Eubank Jr. (26-1-0) for the opportunity to advance to the semi-finals in the super middleweight bracket. Eubank Jr., the son of British boxing legend Chris Eubank Sr., put on one of the best displays of skill and power that I’ve witnessed all year. Team Eubank clearly chose wisely when selecting their WBSS 1st round opponent. Yildirim’s come forward no head movement style provided Eubank Jr. the opportunity to put his skills on full display. He knocked down Yildirim in the 1st and thoroughly dominated the action before dispensing of him with a brutal barrage in the 3rd round.
(Knockdown – 2:39 Knockout – 10:22)
I’ve heard of a 2 piece and a biscuit combo but this shit was more like a Crave Case the way he unloaded almost 30 meaty shots in succession. He’ll face the winner of this weekend’s Groves vs Cox bout in the semi’s.
CONOR BENN vs. NATHAN CLARKE
Conor Benn (9-0-0) is another son of British boxing royalty. His father, Nigel, was a 2 division champion who actually faced off against the aforementioned Eubank Sr. twice in his illustrious career (1 loss and 1 draw). This past weekend, Conor appeared poised to carry on the family legacy when he took on Nathan Clarke (5-2-1). Living up to his nickname, “The Destroyer,” Benn dominated Clarke from the opening bell with clean and powerful punches. After two devastating knockdowns Benn mounted a full on assault forcing an intelligent stoppage from the ref. His skill and lineage make me feel like we will be seeing a lot more of this young 21 year old fighter in the future.

FIRAT ARSLAN vs. ALEJANDRO EMILIO VALORI
Firat Arslan (41-8-2) made a great case that age is nothing but a number when he took on Alejandro Emilio Valori (24-13-0) on this past weekend’s WBSS undercard. The 47-year-old former cruiserweight champion scored a crushing knockout against the 34-year-old journeyman Valori. This marks the 7th straight victory for the old man who shows no signs of slowing anytime soon.

LEWIS RITSON vs. ROBBIE BARRETT
Lewis Ritson (13-0-0) , who clearly stole his attire from Beetlejuice, squared up with Robbie Barrett (15-3-1) on Saturday with Barrett’s British lightweight title up for grabs. Barrett was a game and tough performer, but Ritson’s power was just too much for him to overcome. Ritson routinely walked through the shots of Barrett, seemingly unphased, to deliver his own shots which clearly had far more impact. He hurt Barrett to the head early and often scoring a knockdown in the 2nd, but ultimately conquered his foe with powerful body shots. Ritson floored his competitor 2 times in the 6th and one final time in the 7th all with vicious body blows. After his fighter was knocked down a 4th time, Barrett’s trainer decided he had seen enough and threw in the towel giving Ritson a victory in the 7th round by TKO.
(Knockdowns – 1:44, 3:40, 3:47, 4:40)
There were some other hard-fought competitive matchups this weekend such as Crolla vs. Burns and Eggington vs. Mimoune but this blog is about KNOCKOUTS. With all the controversy so often surrounding the judges, it was refreshing to see some beautiful finishes on Saturday. Let’s hope for more of the same with an amazing boxing weekend ahead of us that features 6 world title fights.
